Actually, the general concept of feudalism lasted longer in Japan than it did in Europe - samurai (both as soldiers and as part of the social order) coexisted with handguns for a couple of centuries (So did knights and handguns, for the record - there was actually a period in which knight armour was tested by firing an arquebus at it - but most of the period of the 'classical' samurai was alongside handguns (the classical katana was introduced in the 1400s, the handgun in the 1500s, and the last battle involving samurai in the 1800s). Also, Cantha is NOT Japan, or any other specific nation - it's simply Asian-flavoured, and it was in the Far East where gunpowder was first discovered. Something which already appears to have been represented by Siege Turtle cannon.

Also, if any new profession was to be introduced, it wouldn't be Cantha unless a future chapter returned to the continent - it would hail from a different part of the world.

And guns aren't going to grant humanity dominance in a generation. Historically, it took centuries for handguns to take over completely in warfare - with handguns appearing around the 15th century, polearms survived into the 17th century, and lancers into the Napoleanic Wars. As I went over in my previous post - it took a while before handguns were even clearly superior to mundane bows and crossbows, let alone melee combat or anything a Ranger can do with a bow in Guild Wars (or an Elementalist with no weapon at all...) Heck, some special forces units even use crossbows today, although that's purely for stealth.

So what's next? In Chapter4 we are gonna have cannons instead of pets? In Chapter5 we will have tanks, and in Chapter6 "nuclear launch detected". Great.

Now, can we please go back to Guild Wars, and those who want mechwarriors can play some other games. Thx.

Have you read nothing of this thread? They already have guns in Guild Wars. The guns we're talking about arn't very good (I wouldn't use em, too dangerous/slow reload time).

very well put lampshade.

There was a reason i made the possiblility to backfire, it helps balance out the character. Just maybe go check out the first post again Kali (who i think might be playing command and conquer generals )

Here are my Daily Updates… at least I’ll try to make them daily, even if they are small from writers block or just because I was busy.

7/5/06

Musketeer’s Honor

So Tired-skill- (5 energy 1 second activate 20 second recharge) – If you have above 30 energy you gain no energy. If you have 26-30 energy you gain 1-5 energy. If you have 21-25 energy you gain 1-6 energy and this skill takes an additional 1 second to activate. If you have 16-20 energy you gain 1-7 energy and this skill takes an additional 2 seconds to activate. If you have 11-15 energy you gain 1-8 energy and this skill takes an additional 3 seconds to activate. If you have 6-10 energy you gain 1-9 energy and this skill takes an additional 4 seconds to activate. If you have 1-5 energy you gain 1-13 energy and this skill takes an additional 5 seconds to activate.

Controllable Tactics –(10 energy 20 second recharge 1 second activate)- You attack 50% slower for 1-10 seconds. Enemy skills and spells that cause you to miss are negated, blind is not included and your own or your team’s skill that cause you to miss are not included either.

Rapier Mastery
Exponential Growth Slash-(10 energy 17 recharge)- This attack strikes for +3-5 damage. For you next 5 slashes you deal +1-10% more damage than the last. If you use another attack skill, or if any of the 5 additional slashes are evaded, blocked, or miss you stop the rest of the slashes.

Full Cyclone Slash –(5 energy 20 recharge)- All adjacent foes are slashed for +2-7 damage.

Defensive Maneuvers

Tread Lightly!- *shout* (5 energy 25 second recharge)- For 1-7 seconds all allies in the area move 30% slower, but gain a 30% chain to evade projectiles.

Play Dead!-*shout*(10 energy 30 second recharge) – All allies in the area are knocked down for 3 seconds. If they are attacked while they are knocked down, the foe is knocked down for 2 seconds and your ally stands up.

Musket Mastery

This Ain’t Rocket Science-stance-(5 energy 30 recharge) – For 1-20 seconds all your musket attacks cost 1-2 less energy, but if you backfire you lose 8-5 energy.

Nervous fire- (5 energy 12 recharge ¼ second activate)- This skill has an increased chance of backfire 30-15%. This skill also has a 50-20% chance to miss. If this skill hit’s you deal +3-11 damage.

Other

Subtle Deed –skill-(5 energy 15 recharge 3 second activate) – You invigorate all allies in the area and remove weakness if they are suffering from it. All the duration of their remaining weakness is transferred to you.

Burning Desire-skill-(10 energy 20 second recharge 3 second activation) For 7 seconds you are set on fire from the burning glory of your heart. Your attacks for those 7 seconds cause your foe to be set on fire for 4 seconds.

First off i love this idea and i think it is just what Guild Wars needs. You put alot of effort into this and it really shows. You balanced it well and as to the musket's, the backfire is an awesome idea. I know when ppl hear guns in GW they immediatly freak out and want no part in it, like the above post by kali(which i dont think he even read any of the thread at all) If you look at all the other wepons used in GW there is no reason why there couldnt be muskets. I think whoever denys the muskets dont really know how they work. They work with gun power(unstable) in a wooden tube that holds an explosion(dangerous anyone?) and then it should shoot but really only shoots 50%-75% of the time. If we can all recall back to the begining of prophecies they had a catapult with an exploding projectile. How did they get this to explode, idk but i have a feeling they used sum kind of explosive such as gun powder. Dont be immediatly afraid of introducing guns to the game because they are not what you think of. If sumone says gun u think of a big machine gun or a hand gun (rocket launcher maybe? halo players ). I bet 9 times out of 10 no one will say musket as the first gun they think of. And to the post about nuclear bombs and cannon pets......idk what the heck that is suppose to be b/c it makes no sense at all and was a stupid thing to say. I say go for it Anet, shake things up or at least introduce the idea of the muskets to the game with a mini game perhaps to see how the average GW player reacts to them. very good post btw again lol

Excuse any spelling mistakes and or grammer

yeah i think some people just overreact, it's like whent they had the AoE nerf awhile back, needed but disliked. This class is nowhere near "needed" but i'm sure people would get over the "gun hate" when they relize when you have a musket your not going to be, still tahnks for the post

This guy

Lol although many guys in the game wanna be him here just found it while looking for the other picture

Don't hate me for that one lol, just felt like having it too.

If anything having a musket might at some point make you feel like this guy

With meteors and fireballs and such, I don't see the reason to "balance" out handguns by making them slow or able to back-fire. But people don't listen to reason... you could suggest a BB Gun with a 75% chance to back-fire and take your face off, and they'd still claim it's too powerful of a thing to add to this game. And for the love of god... stop saying they're "too high-tech" or whatever, we have goddamn cannons and giant robot bosses.
That said, It looks like the class could almost just as easily be called a Pirate if you changed most of the attribute/skill names, and I like that

thanks for the pictures actionjack, i think the female model would resemable something anet would make, the male model i don't know, seems a bit too young. Eh by the way, do you know where to play it ? I googled it and got a bunch of crazy languages with ???????????????????????? in the titles.

Yeah Rikimaru i agree, o and the pirates thing, i thought of that earlier, maybe people would like the idea of a pirate with a gun, everyone loves pirates lol, but for now i'll stick with what i got

P.s new skills will be up later, they are written up, but it takes forever to edit the original post, internet is bad at the moment.

/not signed really bad
i do give credit to it being very good idea alot of creativity of your part but it would kill the game .

/no thank you, I dislike the entire concept of this class.

(Nothing against the OP's fine work and thoughts, I just would prefer never to see this class in Guild Wars.)

I have a Jitte from factions that looks alot like that original rapier photo.

1 So blocking a fellblade is any different than looking like you got hit, but really you evaded it? Mightly weapons are great for brute force, but really as martial arts shows, you can use your brain as well as your strengh when you get in a fight.

2 Really it's like gunpowder, but it's actually black powder, gun powder was slightly in the future when guns started to get better, but anyway, how far are you in the game? Ever see a powder keg?

That i don't really mind, people sometimes don't like it, even though yea a jitte isn't the same. At least you didn't scream about the gunpowder

I'm not sure how many more updates will be made. It's not that i cannot think of new ideas... it's just i'm trying out a couple online games, one of which i used to play and has drawn me back, which is odd since my friends are have the same strange feeling. Anyway, i plan to play guildwars still, but i'm not sure how much other time just to think of ideas, a good time would be when i am doing a nasty afk type skill on the other game... where i would lose my mind if i watched the screen the whole time.

Anyway, this isn't good-bye by any means, just probably taking a break.

So good luck to you all, i wish you the best.

Your's truly,
Well so many names, so i'll go with critical vengeance, a character that will never be deleted.
